7 Polish Manicure Extravaganza Part Two: OPI New York Ballet Minis Review

Warning! Photo intense page! :)

I've used 1 of the OPI NYC Ballet collection polishes in one manicure already but I've been having to put off, and put off doing a full review. Well, the time has finally come!

I received this set by winning 2nd place in Totally Lacquer Obsessed's 300 Likes Giveaway, April 9th, 2012. I received the polishes on April 13, 2012. Pretty fast! Jessica is very sweet, and she did a great job of packaging my polishes to make sure they were not damaged. She shipped Priority Mail, with delivery confirmation so very professional and she did well making sure I received these quickly and without problems. She also included little card signed "Enjoy! Please share pictures of your beautiful manicures! :) <3 Jessica Totally Lacquer Obsessed"

Thank you, Jessica, for taking such precautions and being so professional :)

I had every intention of doing manicures using these polishes oh.. almost immediately. I didn't realize they were sheer colors, however. Long story short, 2 months later I finally have a white polish to paint over so you can get a good look at these! Of course, I recently discovered sheers look awesome over dark colors as well so I may keep that in mind for next week! ;)

If you missed part one of this manicure, I swatched and reviewed Sally Hansen's White Tip, my new white polish.

Here is my original swatch for the first manicure I did with Don't Touch My Tutu! As you can see, it's a very nice white. However, I believe I only got it to be this opaque by applying 3 coats. I don't recall exactly how many now, but I believe it was 3. I've seen other bloggers use as many as 4 coats with this collection. So if you're looking for something more solid, this definitely isn't the collection for you.

So, moving on to this week's manicure, here it is!
I just did 1 coat of each polish over Sally Hansen's White Tip so you could see exactly how light these polishes are.Yes, they are very light and streaky at just 1 coat. You can barely tell the difference between the colors at this point. I kind of did an Ombre style manicure with these, and flip flopped on each hand so you could get a better look at each one.

On my left hand, starting with my thumb: Pirouette My Whistle, Care to Danse?, Don't Touch My Tutu!, My Pointe Exactly! and on my pinky is Sally Hansen's White Tip with 2 coats (see, I promised it looks better with 2 coats!)

On my right hand, from starting with my thumb is Sally Hansen's White Tip, then the OPI colors: My Pointe Exactly!, Don't Touch My Tutu!, Care to Danse? and Pirouette My Whistle.

My Pointe Exactly is described on the box as "See? This gorgeous sheer gray has been right all along!"

Don't Touch My Tutu! is described as "Hands off this wispy white - it's all mine!"

Care to Danse? is described as "This lilac is up-to-the-minuet in fashion."

Pirouette My Whistle is described as "Drink up! This silver sparkle is just what you need."

This set sells for $10.56 on Amazon which isn't too bad for a set of minis. However,  each bottle is only 3.75 mL or 1/8 Fl. Oz. so you really don't get much. Considering these are sheer, you're going to go through them quickly if you want a more opaque look.

What do you think? I'm not a fan of sheer polishes, so I won't be wearing these often. They will be perfect for those days in which I just don't feel like wearing something flashy. Or if I ever have to wear a more natural look. They do seem to dry quickly, so I'll give them that favor. As you can see in the photos, you really can't tell much difference between the colors except for Pirouette My Whistle of course. My Pointe Exactly seems to stand out the most, but then it also seems to be the most streaky. It's definitely darker than the others. Don't Touch My Tutu! Is a nice white when applied in many layers. I think Care to Danse? is more pink than purple and it did surprisingly turn out to be noticeable than expected although you can't really tell in these photos. Pirouette My Whistle is nice, but not really my style. Since I've been studying polishes the past few months I've come to realize I prefer the full coverage glitters, which this is not. So, personally, I think it was just OK.

Thanks for reading! I look forward to sharing another polish with you soon!
