Nail Care Challenge: Cuticle care

Here's part 1: Basecoats if you missed it :)

Here's a photo of most of my nail care products plus some of my "nail art tools."

This week I'm supposed to be discussing Cuticle Care. Well that's pretty simple: if I get a hang nail, I trim it! That's pretty much the extent of my cuticle care routine. I am trying out a cuticle cream I received from Influenster, but I'm going to discuss that during week 4.

So once again, here I am doing some research on what you're "supposed" to do. According to an article on eHow.com, you should apply moisturizer to your hands and cuticles on a daily basis. Several times a day. Me, I'm terrible about remembering to use lotion or any kind of moisturizer. I prefer the much easier method: drink lots of water, exercise and eat healthy. Pretty simple but if you just do these things, your body will be healthier inside and out.

I never even heard of a cuticle remover until I started researching cuticle care. Apparently this is used to soften your cuticles. (Isn't that what the moisturizer, creams, oils, etc. are supposed to be for?) So no, I've never used one..

I have used orange sticks also known as cuticle sticks. I actually must be one of the few freaks who don't mind pushing back their cuticles.. I kind of enjoy it to be honest. Again, I don't think to do it often so I typically don't. Actually, I typically use my orange sticks more often for removing polish on my cuticles/fingers. You can dip it in the polish remover and then kind of scrub away at your finger with it. Probably not the easiest or best way of doing it, but oh well :)

 My orange sticks.

Cuticle clipper?? OH! So that's what that thing is called! Yes, I have been using it to cut my hang nails. O-o
Actually, I typically reach for the nail clippers when cutting a hang nail. I'm not really certain what's the difference?

This next tool I own scares me.. I'm not certain if it's supposed to be a cuticle clipper or what. Needless to say, I don't use it because I'm not entirely positive what it's meant for and it just looks scary... I've always assumed it was supposed to be used to cut hang nails but it doesn't seem very useful.

After some careful web searching I found out this thing is called a cuticle knife. Hmmm... yeah, I'm not using this thing. Ever. At least I finally know what it is after years of owning it? :D It's pretty much what I thought: you're supposed to use it to cut back your cuticles. Why you would want to do this, I don't know. It's my belief they're there for a reason so I'm just going to leave them be... that reason, by the way, is to protect your nails, and fingers from bacteria and other disease.

So I guess I've spilled my dirty little secret: I don't do anything special to care for my cuticles. Hope you enjoyed seeing the tools I pretty much don't use and perhaps you learned something as well?
