Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
Just for something fun to do, I decided to apply to review "How to Become Fluent in Spanish" by John Del Gaudio. At the time, I had expected to have a lot more time and energy to apply some of the techniques I learned in this book. Unfortunately, life happened and I didn't have quite the time I had planned on. Regardless, I will review this product to the best of my ability and as always, honestly. Besides, the author even points out that it can take years to really master a language. Here's a brief description of the book:
"Most people think they need a great Spanish teacher or immersion to
become fluent in Spanish. And while both great teachers and immersion
can definitely help improve in Spanish, many students find that typical
courses and short-term immersion are not sufficient to become totally
fluent.
In this Kindle ebook, I recommend a self-training system that will allow
the intermediate student to learn Spanish daily and become fluent much
faster by training himself how to learn.
This little guidebook might just save the student a lot of time and
frustration on his journey to become a proficient and fluent Spanish
speaker."
I was provided with a Kindle e-book. The first thing I have to mention about this is for whatever reason, the page numbers for this e-book are all really messed up. According to Amazon, this e-book is about 25 pages long, but the pages are into the hundreds. Every new page seems to be off by 20 pages or so. It's a bit confusing. I'm not sure why this is, but I thought I would mention it because it does effect the functionality of reading the book.
Half of this book talks about the author's experiences with trying to become fluent in Spanish, which is kind of nice because you see that he has experience with learning a new language and understands how difficult it can be. While he obviously promotes his method in his book, it does seem to me that immersion does seem to be a big chunk of what helped him learn the language (he was living in Spanish speaking countries at the time.) Not everyone who learns the language has this type of lifestyle, nor can they immerse themselves in the language the way the author did, so it does seem a bit contradictory to me.
With that in mind, however, the method the author presents does logically make a lot of sense. I don't feel it's new at all, parts of it are very similar to how I learned English, other parts remind me of my days of speech therapy. The author is correct, this method does come across as requiring a lot of work and effort. I can't really speak about how effective it is, since I didn't have the time to apply it as I had planned, but logically I can say it does seem as though it would be effective. I feel this method would work for any language, not just Spanish.
There are a few technological requirements for the author's method, which kind of surprised me. I don't quite have the resources to use those methods at the moment. Hopefully some day I can put this method to the full test and try it out to see just how effective it really is.
Oh, also - I do want to mention, the author presents this method as not being for beginners. I wouldn't let that put you off at all if you feel hesitant about reading this. I feel this book could be read, and applied at any stage of the learning process. I'm not an expert on foreign languages by any means, but if you're you know English and have some interest in reading this book despite not knowing another language, you'll be fine.

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips
I won these in a giveaway.
This week I've been trying out Sally Hansen Salon Effects polish strips. I won #150 Groove in a giveaway quite awhile ago and am just now getting around to trying them out (I put it off for so long due to my annoyance with most nail strips!) These nail strips are a very bright neon green, which surprisingly didn't bother me as much as I thought it would since I don't typically care for solid colors on my nails.
I would have to say these are the best nail strips/foils/wraps etc. I've used. They're easy to apply, and once they're on, for the most part they stay down. As you can see from my picture, I did rip the accent nail by accident so you do have to be a bit more gentle with them than I was.
There's just a few things which I feel would make these better. I apparently have tiny nails because I used the smallest strips possible for most of my nails and even then a couple of them were much too big for my nails. Because of this, unfortunately the strips did not apply correctly on some of my nails which meant they lifted quickly and only lasted about an hour before breaking off in some places.
As you can see from the pictures, these are supposed to last up to 10 days. Nope, sorry Sally Hansen but not happening. All I did was sit down, watch TV and eat and these strips started coming off, as I mentioned. Here it is day 5 and I still have these on my nails. Not one is unchipped.
Here's how my nails looked by the 4th day.
So as you can plainly see.. nope, definitely not lasting 10 days. I give these a big thumbs up regardless, because nail strips typically last me oh... 5 to 60 minutes. so just the fact that I've had these on my nails for several days makes these a better product than most. I'm not sure I would buy them for myself, but they're fun to play with.
Yikes these are pricey - $10 at Ulta, almost $11 at Walgreens. So no, I won't be buying these. If you can manage to get yourself some for free or at a much discounted price, I think it would be worth it just to try.

JulieG Crushed Candy
I bought this item.
I have another texture polish to share with you today, this time it's a JulieG polish called Crushed Candy. I absolutely love the JulieG texture polishes. They're all so pretty and the formula is fantastic. I wish I had more of these, they're just perfect.
Crushed Candy is kind of a light pinkish purple and the cool thing about this one is the hex glitter, which I think you should be able to see in this picture. Really lovely :)
Here's a closeup with the flash. You can see the silver hex glitters reflect here. I didn't notice it really doing this much just with my plain eye but it's kind of neat how the glitters come across as almost black with the reflection of the flash. This one just looks so sparkly and pretty. Love it.
Here's one more look, a little blurry but I still like this picture anyway. Such a pretty color. I will mention that this one didn't dry quite as fast as the other JulieG polishes have in the past, so I'm kind of thinking maybe the weather was causing my polishes to dry slower than usual which might be why Zoya Solange was giving me issues last week.
I think that's it for today. Thanks for reading! If you like my post, please share it, please follow me (look on the sidebar on the left for my follows.) Thank you :)

Zoya Solange
I bought this polish.
Well, with one thing and another, I've gotten really freaking side tracked from my planned posts.. as usual. I'm hoping to get back to doing my Pokemon nail challenge soon, plus the dupes. I'm currently trying to get back to being awake during the day. It's funny, it can be so hard to get adjusted to being awake at night but once you've been on night shift for so long, it seems to be even harder to get back on day shift sometimes.
So anyway, today I have my first Zoya PixieDust polish to share with you. I bought this one last month as part of their promo. Solange is a gorgeous yellow gold texture polish.
I love the color of this polish, but if this is what all the PixieDust polishes are like, I'm not impressed. This required two coats and even then coverage wasn't quite as nice as I would have liked. In my pictures you can see some pretty thin spots. I think I would actually apply this one over a yellow base in the future. My main complaint about this polish is the dry time. I'm used to texture polishes not taking very long at all to dry. Solange took much longer to dry than most other texture polishes I've used... longer than some regular polishes, for that matter.
It's too bad I had issues with this polish, because the color is so pretty. I'm not sure it matches my skin tone very well, since I'm so yellow.. but that's OK. I wish I would have had this polish when I did my Sandshrew nails, it would have been just the right color to use.
Have you tried Solange? Would you have to say it's typical or atypical for PixieDust polishes? I'd love to know, please leave a comment :)

Dreamy Lacquer Lilac or Lavender?
I was provided with this polish.
Last week you saw a sneak peek of today's polish when I reviewed the KKCenterHk stamper. Yes, I'm talking about this mess.
Give me a minute, and I'll show you the pretty purple polish beneath this chaos.
I wasn't expecting to get this polish to review, but I was excited when I got it. Lavender is one of my favorite scents and colors. This color reminds me of many years ago, I asked my mom for some lavender colored towels for Christmas. What I received was something a little closer to fuchsia or I suppose lilac, depending on what you consider lilac. Those light purple colors seem confuse people in regards to which color is which so obviously I can appreciate the name of this polish. I thought it was funny. I know, silly story!
Here is 3 coats of Lilac or Lavender?
I love the color, of course! The formula itself I wasn't sure about at all when I first swatched it. It just wasn't quite the nice creme I expected. It was almost too thin for what I expect from a creme. So I swatched it a second time.
The second time I decided I was just in one of my mood's that first day; it turned out fine the second time now that I knew what to expect. I think what threw me off is I would have to describe this more as a crelly than a creme; almost a jelly creme.
So I'm still a bit unsure about this polish. I'm not sure if I like the color on me, it's just a bit too pastel. I'm sure I would love it on someone else. Maybe it will grow on me more when I use it in the future. That's just a personal preference though. I really had no issues with this polish once I knew what to expect. I will mention that like most Dreamy Lacquer polishes, this one also seems to be fairly sheer with just 2 coats. I'd recommend 3 coats.
Here it is with 2 coats, topped with Cover Girl Amethyst Mist once again. I think you can see how it's not quite perfect opacity at 2 coats.
It does seem that most of Dreamy Lacquer's polishes take 3 coats to reach a nice opacity but these do seem to dry in decent time so no problem there.
Thanks again to Dreamy Lacquer Company for providing me with this polish to sample.
Lilac or Lavender? is available for $8 for a full size bottle at their online store.
You can find Dreamy Lacquer on Facebook, Twitter, and be sure to check out their blog.

Let's try this again... Bombardier's Eyes
I was provided with this item for review.
If you remember, about a month and a half ago, I was provided with what I thought was Dreamy Lacquer Company's Bombardier's Eyes, and I did a full review about it which you can read here. As it turns out, I accidentally received a prototype polish. Today I'll be reviewing the real thing.
For comparison sake, here's the prototype polish, 2 coats.
Now here's 1 coat of the real thing.
Yes, you can already see a difference at one coat it's much more opaque than the prototype was, even at 2 coats. Now here is what the real thing looks like with 2 coats.
This color is gorgeous and much more what I expected out of Bombardier's Eyes, to be honest! Although.. I have to say it was still a bit too on the sheer side for my liking, but this is quickly fixed with another coat. The color met my expectations perfectly with 3 coats. I had no problem with application or anything. Just simply another beautiful polish.
To finish off this manicure, I applied a third coat of Bombardier's Eyes on the accent nail, and Cover Girl Amethyst Mist on the others. Amethyst Mist does have a slight purple base to it, which gave Bombardier's Eyes a nice silver hue. I think it looked really pretty.
This is just the color I imagined it would be with 3 coats. Perfect.
Thanks once again to Dreamy Lacquer for providing me with this polish to review!

Book review: D-Nine by Magus Tor
Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
I've never done a book review on this blog before, but I saw D-Nine by Magus Tor available for review on Tomoson.com and I was intrigued. Read the description of this book, and I think my regular readers will see why.
"James is suffering from bouts of headache and the latest one gives him an experience of a life-time. He gets to become a girl but it comes with a price, his or rather her life is in constant danger as assassins hunt after her. He needs to find out who is behind this before his and her life becomes forfeited. In the midst of adventure he also needs to face with another difficult situation, love from another guy. Will he survive the conspiracy or death is a welcome solution to his forbidden love."
Before I begin my review, here's a little bit of background information about the author:
"A doctor by day and game designer (and writer) by night, Magus Tor hopes to be able to turn the tables and become a game designer by day and doctor by night! He has published three books despite English being his not-so-favourite subject at school."
I was provided with a Kindle e-book version of this book for review. I found it a little bit difficult to get into at first, just because it's always a transition getting used to a new author's writing style. Once I adapted myself to the author's style, I quickly began to enjoy this book. The first half of the book I found quite amusing. I was surprised to draw so much humor from this book, I wasn't expecting that. After the initial hurdle I found myself drawn into the author's world, and I had a difficult time putting the book down. As a chronic headache sufferer, obviously I could relate to the main character and his pain. As a woman, I found many of the situations in this story quite amusing.
I'm not going to spoil the ending, but I found the idea behind this story's ending unique and very interesting. I did enjoy that part of it. However, I felt the story was too short, and ended too quickly. It left me wanting more (*hint hint*) I would consider purchasing other stories by this author in the future.
I do want to note that it is apparent English is the author's second language, and that his occupation is as a medical doctor. There were just a few words which were in the wrong sequence, that kind of thing. Also, the use of medical terminology in this story might be a bit confusing to some, although it is limited. Otherwise, I was rather surprised when I read about him doing so poorly in English at school. I felt it was well written. A good read.
My thanks to Tomoson.com and Magus Tor for providing me with the book for review.
