TIOT Alter Ego Beachcomber and Black Cat Lacquer Peacocky

Try It On Tuesdays is back! I was going to go with a red manicure this week, but after viewing my swatches last week I decided I just had to break out two of my polishes and try them together. For this manicure, I used 3 coats of Alter Ego Beachcomber and 1 coat of Black Cat Lacquer Peacocky.

I used 1 coat of Julep's Matte Top coat on the accent nail. Before I show you more pictures, a couple of comments here are needed:

I had no problems with Peacocky. It worked fine and I really didn't have to fish for glitter or anything.

Beachcomber was a different story. As I mentioned, it took 3 coats to get to this opacity. Next time I would use Beachcomber over another color to get the opaqueness. What I like about Beachcomber:
- the color is gorgeous
- it dries very quickly. by the time I was done with my second hand (at times, my first) some of my first nails were just about dry to the touch.

I hate to say anything bad about a product, but this was such a pain to work with. The polish is gel based and it is very thick but the biggest problem is the formula. This polish separates horribly so you have to let it sit for a few minutes upside down, then shake it a bunch. I found I had to shake it a few times in between nails and even then the color wasn't coming out even but worse, you can see clumps of the color pigment on the nails. It isn't so obvious with 3 coats but you can definitely see it with 1. You can kind of make out the clumps a little bit here in my swatch picture.

The polish also wears away very quickly. I wore it for maybe 2 hours before I started noticing tip wear.It was also very difficult to get a flat, level coat. I do have a couple of nails where it just got kind of goopy and uneven and because it does start to dry rather quickly, it was a bit difficult to fix the unevenness at times.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to say about this polish: it is jam packed with micro glitters which when applied with a glossy top coat turn it into an absolutely gorgeous shimmer.

So, not a big fan of Beachcomber's formula. Here are some more pictures!

The next pictures are with sunlight only, the others were with flash.

Also, the Julep matte top coat applied fine, and dried very quickly. No problems with it, either!

Thanks for reading and I'd love to see your comments!

    1. hope it's OK! I do have 1 more Alter Ego polish - Penny Pincher - and it separates also. Haven't really used it enough to comment much more on it, but it does have the color pigment issue also.
