Review: Ellagee Mean Girls Collection polishes

I was provided with these samples in exchange for an honest review.

I'm so excited because today I get to share with you two polishes from Ellagee's new Mean Girls collection! I'm not familiar with Mean Girls whatsoever but that's OK, I can appreciate the polishes :)

You Can't Sit With Us and I'm a Mouse, DUH!

When I first opened this package, my first thoughts turned to Above The Curve's Guardian Angel, upon seeing I'm a Mouse, DUH! No, this color does NOT look anything at all like Guardian Angel, woohoo! It is a very subtle lavender grey scattered holo with a subtle linear holo. The color itself is quite unique, I have to say. It's rather quite lovely and I am very happy with it.

Now honestly, as I was taking these shots I was getting kind of frustrated because I couldn't see the holo effect that much. Then I came inside and looked at the pictures and OH! There it is! :)

I'm a Mouse, DUH! was just a tiny bit difficult to work with. It almost has a bit of a frost finish so getting a perfect coat was just the tiniest bit tricky but no big deal. It looks lovely with just one coat but I did use 2. Here's one last look at I'm a Mouse, DUH! this time with the flash on.

I did a second manicure using You Can't Sit With Us as a topper but unfortunately I didn't notice until now, I had massive amounts of cat fur all over my fingers in almost all of the pictures. Thank you, Winslow. >-<

For this manicure I started with a base of Kleancolor Black. Then I sponged on Black, jane Warpaint (a vintage polish) and Sation Queenie in a Bottle. Lastly of course I topped the whole works with You Can't Sit With Us. I really like this glitter but it is a little bit difficult to remove, and it also seemed to take quite awhile to dry.

So fortunately I have one more manicure to share with you! I did some nail art with the first manicure :) I started by using You Can't Sit With Us on every other nail. Then in between those I did some paisley inspired designs. Originally I was going to do leopard spots but then I thought it looked more like paisley so I went with it. I used Queenie in a Bottle, and Kleancolor Neon Aqua.

I thought this might be a bit too much craziness on my nails, but nope it wasn't. I had to stop myself from adding more to it.

More nail foil! review

In case you hadn't noticed already, I kind of really love nail foil. So today I have not one but two foils to share with you.

For review: N.Nail Red Light Blue Stripe Laser Nail Foil Transfer [NNAIL-E35]
and N.Nail Black White Leopard Pattern Nail Foil Transfer [NNAIL-E40]

I'll start with the Black White Leopard pattern nail foil, E40. I applied this over Chrome Girl When In Chrome, a gorgeous silver foil. Immediately I could tell this foil would not be for everyone. It kind of comes across as a black shatter/crackle design which of course means I LOVED it but then I love crackle :P Only after doing this manicure did I realize it matches my bed sheets.

Unfortunately this one didn't photograph very nicely, all of that chrome effect reflecting light back at my camera. This looked a lot nicer in real life. The foil itself only lasted about a day before chipping but that seems to be pretty standard. I really wish the pattern weren't so large because you can end up getting a lot of nails which are just black. In general, you can't even tell this is supposed to be a leopard design. Some of the "spots" are about an inch long, so I mean I guess you could do a great accent nail with it but for the work wouldn't you rather just paint your nail? I know I would.

For the Red and Blue Stripe Laser foil, I once again started with a base of When In Chrome but this time I topped it with one coat of Sinful Colors Tokyo Pearl. Since it was July when I got these, I thought it would be a fun 4th of July themed manicure. Well.. not exactly.

Here's a side by side comparison, one shot in natural light, the other with my flash.

 I showed this manicure to my boyfriend, and he just had one perfect word to describe it:

Of course, he's absolutely right and of course after he said that, every time I looked at my nails all I could see was Aquafresh in my mind. The colors ended up being too much for me so I covered it over with Tip Top Iceberg, and wahlah! my nails were happy again. :) 

Yes, I love my crackle. So anyway, back to this foil. 1st, I tried a lot of different top coats with both of these foils. Ulta's seemed to work the best but even so it killed the holo effect of E35 but worse, it picked up a lot of the red ink. The striped foil did seem to last longer, but probably because I had so many additional layers of polish with it. I think this foil has tons of potential. You could do an all red manicure, all blue manicure, for example. Or like my pointer finger turned out, I think it looks great doing half of each color. If you do almost blue with just a hint of the red gradient, you almost get a fake chrome effect which looks really neat. If you have more patience than I, I'm sure you could use either of these foils as a great base for some nail art as well. There's definitely a ton of potential with these foils :)

Hello readers! Today I have 1 more book review for you. Today I am reviewing Fargoer, a book by Finnish author Petteri Hannila. Here's a little bit about the book before I begin my review:

In the dark woods of ancient Finland, an extraordinary woman is creating foundations for her life. All this is threatened to be burned in flames of chaos, as men as well as spirits put their powers against her happiness. She is to become Fargoer, one who wanders across the known world for her destiny. Among her assets is a will of iron that is not ready to settle for something that is not of her own doing.

Fargoer begins a fantasy tale set against a backdrop of the Viking Age. It will take the reader deep into the forests of the north, among a people of Kainu both unique and ancient in their ways. Vikings prowl the waterways and the riches of the far south are in the reach of the powerful. Yet, powers both supernatural and natural are in constant motion to set things as they see fit. 

Now here's a little bit about me: I have very distant Finnish ancestors as well as Viking roots. I have spent a lot of time over the past 6 years reading about their heritage, their stories. I'm a genealogist. I have a huge respect for the ancient people, and the old ways. Although I'm also Christian, I don't like the way things have changed in our world and I don't like the way we're headed. Too many of us spend our lives behind computers or cell phones. We've lost touch with nature, and I do believe we've lost touch with God because of it. This is just a piece of my background and beliefs so perhaps you can understand where I'm coming from with my review. Its not my intent to get preachy ;)

Fargoer provided me with a nice touch of fresh air. It was fantastic to read something from the view point of one still in touch with the old ways, and the old stories. I found it very interesting to read a story about such a strong female character. The story is fairly easy reading, but left me captivated and interested. I think this book has a very good moral behind it, as although we face many different hardships in our lives we continue to go on and fight. Unlike a lot of modern fiction, I honestly wasn't sure where this journey was leading me. It had a lot of unexpected twists and endings. I felt it was very well written, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I would recommend this to anyone interested in Viking mythology or the cultures of primitive peoples. You can purchase Fargoer for the Kindle on Amazon for $3.99 or for free with Kindle Unlimited.
